Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere NP)
Now renamed Nyerere National Park, the Selous is Africa's largest protected wildlife area — bigger than Switzerland. The lifeblood of the reserve is the mighty Rufiji River, which creates a network of lakes and channels perfect for boat safaris.
Ruaha National Park
Ruaha is the park that safari connoisseurs whisper about. Tanzania's largest national park, it's home to 10% of the world's lion population and boasts incredible predator densities. The Great Ruaha River acts as a lifeline, drawing massive herds during the dry season.
Mikumi National Park
Often compared to a mini-Serengeti, Mikumi offers excellent wildlife viewing just a few hours' drive from Dar es Salaam. The Mkata Floodplain provides classic savanna scenery with open plains where you can see lions, giraffes, zebras, and elephants against the backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains.
