Mount Meru

Arusha National Park, Tanzania | 4,566m / 14,980ft

Tanzania's Hidden Gem

Often overshadowed by its famous neighbor Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru is a spectacular volcano that offers one of East Africa's most rewarding climbs. Located in the heart of Arusha National Park, this trek combines stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro from the summit.

At 4,566 meters, Mount Meru is Tanzania's second-highest peak and the fifth-highest in Africa. The climb follows the Momella Route, a well-maintained trail that takes you through lush forests, across alpine meadows, and up to the dramatic crater rim. What sets Meru apart is the incredible wildlife viewing on the lower slopes — you're likely to encounter giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys during your trek.

Many climbers use Mount Meru as an acclimatization trek before attempting Kilimanjaro, but it's a magnificent standalone adventure. With a 98% summit success rate and only 3-4 days required, it's perfect for those with limited time or those seeking a less crowded mountain experience.
